Flatbreads are usually made yeast free and will serve beautifully as Naan to go with curries etc, or simply to go with a range of dips. They can be plain, or you can add spices and herbs and nothing beats garlic butter!
Ingredients
- 300g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting
- Half a teaspoon baking powdr
- 150g natural yoghurt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Melted ghee or butter, for brushing (flavour with minced garlic)
- Cumin seeds, garlic, coriander, chillies, dried herbs - optional extras
AND THIS IS WHAT YOU DO...
- Combine the flour, baking powder, yoghurt and oil with one teaspoon salt and 2 tablespoons water and knead into a dough.
- Tip on to a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes. Divide into four.
- Put a heavy-based frying pan over a high heat.
- Roll out dough pieces, brush with ghee or butter then scatter over spices and or garlic and herbs.
- Fold each piece of dough over on itself, then roll into an oval.
- Fry for one minute on each side until golden and slightly charred in spots.
- Brush flatbreads with more melted butter or ghee, then serve with a curry or dips.
